The public sector encompass a wide range of uniformed and non-uniformed services such as the police, fire and ambulance services, armed forces, health services, HM Prison Service, HM Revenue and a multitude of national and regional governmental bodies.

Our Foundation Degree courses have been developed with employers and the regional development project for public service education. The skills, knowledge and experience you gain will be highly relevant and transferable to a wide range of roles and organisations.

You will cover subjects such as organisational behavior, managing people and leadership, event and incident planning, budget management, government, politics and law. You can choose to specialise in managing in the public sector or outdoor education services.

You will be required to do a work placement as part of your course and there will be plenty of outdoor activities and trips to enhance your studies and expand your experience.

Our Foundation Degrees are run in conjunction with the University of Plymouth and, when you complete your course, you can progress to year three of the University of Plymouth’s BSc Public Services degree.

The public sector continues to be a major employer in the South West and regional policy is focused on developing the management skills of those working within the public sector. Studying at a higher level will open up a wealth of career opportunities to you.
